Travelling gluten free comes with its challenges, all of which I’m sure you’re all too familiar with, but if your destination is Paris, fear not! You won’t be left starving this time.
My boyfriend recently took me to Paris for my birthday and I must admit that at first my expectations were low. Having had a mediocre ‘gluten filled pizza and pasta everywhere’ food experience in other French cities in the past (requiring much creativity in order to eat), I was preparing myself for a similar scenario.
But oh no, to my surprise Paris turned out to be a gem for gluten free food. Initially all my online research kept redirecting me towards the same result – NoGlu – but as I dug deeper I discovered a massive selection of 100% gluten free bakeries, cafes and restaurants. From eclairs to waffles to pizzas, trust me you won’t not go hungry in Paris!
The list ended up so long that my trip turned into some kind of gluten free crawl. ? In the end I didn’t even have the time to try them all, let alone test any of the gluten free friendly ‘normal’ restaurants!
So without further ado, here is my list of 100% gluten free restaurants in Paris:
UPDATE 2022
Please note that I wrote this guide many years ago and, sadly, a lot of these wonderful places have closed their doors since then. Especially following the pandemic. There are still many gems to be found around Paris (and plenty of newer ones that I have yet to discover I’m sure), but as this list is old, always research online to make sure that a location is still opened before travelling.
1. Helmut Newcake
UPDATE: PERMANENTLY CLOSED
Salted caramel eclair and chocolate profiterole cake.
Location: Paris, France (28 Rue Vignon, 75009 Paris, France)
Nearest Metro Stations: Madeleine (line 8, 12 and 14)
Opening Times: Monday to Saturday – 11:30am to 7pm, Sunday – closed
Food: a huge selection of delicious pastries and sweet things + a few savoury options like sandwiches.
Where to begin, Helmut Newcake simply is a gluten free heaven. Paris has a rich selection of gluten free bakeries and restaurants, but in my opinion this one wins hands down. If you’re gluten free and visiting Paris, you just cannot miss this place!
GLUTEN FREE ECLAIRS – need I say anymore!? 😀

My Free Kitchen is a brilliant little restaurant around the 9th arrondissement that is definitely worth a visit. The food is great, the staff are very friendly and the wine is lovely too. Besides being 100% gluten free, they also have dairy free as well as vegetarian and vegan options.
Bear in mind that the menu varies slightly from day to day and the pizza is only available at dinner time.

You can find this awesome waffle bar hiding in a courtyard behind the shop Le BHV Marais L’Homme. It’s 100% gluten free, with a choice of both sweet and savoury waffles. My boyfriend and I were both impressed with this place. Gluten free waffles are such a rare opportunity and these didn’t disappoint!

Food: 100% gluten free bakery and restaurant
NoGlu has two outlets, adjacent to each other; one being a bakery/shop/lunch, the other being a restaurant that recently opened up.
I didn’t get to try the bakery, which I’ve heard very good things about, but I had dinner at the restaurant. Previously I had heard a lot about this place on gluten free groups so I was looking forward to it, but if I’m honest I was extremely disappointed. I had a lasagna which tasted as if it had been sitting around for a long time… the texture was so hard (and burnt in places) that it was difficult to cut. It had the tell tale signs of having been cooked more than once.
I’m not a fussy person that complains easily and maybe I was just there on the wrong night, but considering how expensive this place is, I left feeling quite displeased. While my boyfriend thought his dish was ok (pictured above), we both agreed that overall our meals were not worth the money. I searched through review sites afterwards and unfortunately found similar stories. 🙁
So all in all we were not impressed with the restaurant, but definitely give the bakery a go as I’ve only heard great things about it!
On a more positive note, I have to say the restaurant’s atmosphere and location (in a cute and very French Arcade) was brilliant. I could definitely see myself going there to enjoy a drink at night. And again, as the restaurant is relatively new, it could just be that they need more time to develop.

As you can see, there is a lot to choose from. One thing to bear in mind is that Paris cafes and restaurants have very strange and irregular opening times so be sure to check before heading out somewhere! Or you could waste a lot of time travelling to a place only to find it’s closed!
By the way, if you know of any more gluten free (or gluten free friendly) restaurants in Paris, leave a comment below! I’d love to try different places on my next Paris trip! 😀
Enjoy!
This is amazing! I was scared I wouldn’t be able to eat in Paris. I’m going to try all of these.
I just like the helpful info you supply in your articles.
