Where to begin, Helmut Newcake simply is a gluten free heaven. Paris has a rich selection of gluten free bakeries and restaurants, but in my opinion this one wins hands down. If you’re gluten free and visiting Paris, you just cannot miss this place!
Even if you have no plans to be in that area, I don’t care, make some! Some things in life are worth the detour and some are not. This place definitely falls in the former category. Basically if you skip this place, you’ll essentially be missing out on some the best gluten free pastries you’ve ever been given the chance to have. I don’t know about you, but where I live (and that’s coming from someone who lives in a great city for gluten free food – London), places like Helmut Newcake exist almost exclusively in dreams.
Not only is it absolutely delicious, but there’s a massive selection to choose from and everything from the taste, the quality and the beautiful presentation is nothing short of perfect. You can barely tell it’s gluten free. It feels just like walking into a ‘real’ bakery and not just any real bakery, but a fantastic one at that! You may think that I’m exaggerating, but if you’re a pastry and french desserts lover, you know what I mean… all that amazing off-limits stuff rarely found in gluten free bakeries, like eclairs!
And not only do they have eclairs, but they have more than one flavour! Chocolate and hazelnut, nougat, chocolate, salted caramel…
Along with so many other delights.
It was a tough choice, but I opted for the salted caramel eclair and chocolate profiterole ‘cake’, which were delicious.
My boyfriend almost had the same thing, but he took the coffee profiterole ‘cake’ instead. He was highly impressed with everything too.
We both agreed, however, that the salted caramel eclair is the definite winner! ♥
On top of all these sweet treats, there were also some tasty looking sandwiches and salads on offer, as well as freshly baked bread so it’s also an option for lunches on the go.
What more can I say? I think these pictures speak for themselves so if you’re not convinced yet, then I don’t know what will! 😉
My boyfriend and I spent a good portion of our trip to Paris hopping from one gluten free place to the other and Helmut Newcake really stood out to us. I only wish I’d had more time to go back and stuff my suitcase full of yummy french desserts to take back home to London!
