Over the years, if there’s one conclusion I’ve drawn from my burger making trial and errors, it’s that a good homemade burger sauce is almost alwaysΒ the secret to making the best burgers!Β Closely followed by yourΒ choice ofΒ bread if gluten free (but that’s a whole other story… lol).Β It’sΒ that special ingredient that can take your burgers from great to perfect. π
And the secret to a perfect burger sauce is without a doubt gherkins. It’s all about the gherkins (and fresh onions)!
It’sΒ so easy to make and a million times better than any pre-made versions out there, in my opinion. It doesn’t even compare.Β So the next time you make burgers, why not skip the the usual underwhelming condiments and makeΒ your own homemade burger sauce instead!
Note: for tips on how to make perfect burger patties (that don’t shrink like crazy and bulk up in the middle), check out my homemade big mac post {here}.
Preparation time: 5 mins (to make the sauce) + 15 mins (resting time)
Ingredients
- 4 heaped Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 heaped Tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- 4 gherkins (medium sized)
- 1/2 small onion
- 1/2 tsp dried dill
- Dash of cayenne pepper
- Salt
- Black pepper
Directions
- Finely chop half of a small onion and 4 gherkins.
- Combine with the rest of the ingredients.
- Let the burger sauce sit for a while, at least 15 minutes. This allows the juices from the onion and gherkins to get around and for the flavours to infuse.
Enjoy!
