I am currently visiting my family in Canada (Montreal) for the first time in years and I was pleasantly surprised to find how much the gluten free scene has grown since my last time here!
Thanks to the blog The GF BFF, I discovered a lot of amazing places, many of which are 100% gluten free and therefore free from cross contamination and worries!
One of these is Petit Lapin – a 100% gluten free bakery near the metro station Vendome. Their products are also free from all the main allergens such as peanuts, nuts, sesame seeds, milk, eggs, seafood, soy, sulphites, mustard and of course gluten containing grains (so you won’t be finding any deglutenised wheat or barley sneaking in there).
Check out their website for more info –> here.
They have a lot of awesome things on offer like doughnuts, macarons, cupcakes, cake pops, madeleines, cakes, etc. And they also do custom orders!
Cinnamon doughnut
Strawberry, lemon and chocolate macarons
Cupacakes
Vanilla iced doughnut
My personal favourites were the doughnuts and the madeleines. They were flavourful and the texture was very soft (whereas the cupcakes were a little dry, but still good). I had not eaten a doughnut in years and these didn’t disappoint! I definitely recommend the doughnuts if you choose to visit this bakery and in fact I just have to go there for more before I leave!
I’m always a bit wary of products that are free from too many things as it’s already hard enough to find gluten or dairy free baked goods that taste as good as the ‘real’ thing, let alone when a bunch of other things have been removed. I’ve had my share of disappointment, but not at Le Petit Lapin bakery! I would recommend them to any gluten free people living in or visiting Montreal. 🙂
Bonus points for the look of the place and their general presentation too. I mean, look at it! How cute is that!? I’m a sucker for cute packaging and stuff. 😉
Enjoy!
